Effects of Articulation Training Program with Cerebral Palsied Children

Abstract
The Purpose of the present study was to improve the misarticulation of cerebral palsied children thorugh applying the articulation training program to them.
The Present study involved four cerebral palsied children ranging four to eight years in age. They had adequate eating behaviors but very poor functioning of respiratory and articulation organs enough to create severe misarticulation well as difficulties in phonation and utterence.
The articulation training program used in the study was composed of three-stage processes. The emphasis in stage one, two, and three was placed on the skill training. the vowel phonation, and the consonant phonation, respectively.
The program had been administered for 12 weeks and its effects was pre-tested and post-tested.
The conclusions drawn from the study were as follows.
First, it appeared that the substantial improvement was found in the functional level of subjects¢¥ respiratory and articulation organs in the end of training. For S1 and S2 subject, the rigid part of the lower jaw was somewhat smoothened. In addition, great reduction in athetosic movements for A1 subject make it possible to imitate round shape.
Second. the improvement in misarticulation of subjects was brought about by the application of the program. Especially, the bilabial was largely improved in the position of sound, and the errors of beginning sound in a word did so.
